Sadecki's no-hitter was the
first since teammate Bob
Anderson's in Sept. 1962.

Sadecki Sox It to Spiders
23-Year Old No-Hits Former Team
SAN FRANCISCO (May 6) -- Manhattan youngster Ray Sadecki tossed the league's eighth no-hitter today at Seals Stadium, shutting out the team that made him a first round draft pick in 1960.  The southpaw Kansan had been struggling, posting a 7.16 ERA in his previous four starts, but dominated the Spiders from start to finish today, walking four and striking out 11 in front of 17,000 bitter fans.  Tony Kubek and Felipe Alou each homered and drove in three runs in the 6-0 win.
Sadecki, the Spiders' first draft pick after their miracle championship in 1959, pitched over 100 innings for San Francisco in 1960-61, with an ERA over 6.00, but was drafted early by Manhattan (8th overall) in the 1962 expansion draft because of his great potential.  He spent most of 1962 in Double-A Miami and helped lead the Triple-A Havana Sugar Kings to the Governor's Cup last year, posting a 16-5 record and 1.78 ERA in 22 starts.
Sadecki is #4 in the Gray Sox' 5-man rotation, ahead of rookie Dean Chance, a teammate last year in Havana.  Chance, the 2nd overall pick in 1962, is 3-4, 4.45 in 8 starts.
