A standout performance in April earned Johnny Podres the Pitcher of the Month Award in the United League. When his name was penciled in to start by the Cleveland skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams. For the month the Barons star racked up 4 wins and no losses.
In 45 innings of work, Podres limited opposing batters to 31 base hits and a .191 batting average. He notched 45 strikeouts, issued 11 walks and had a 1.00 ERA.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Earl Francis did as he led the Barons to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Hilltoppers.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Atlanta manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Francis yielded 1 hit and had 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in a standout performance.
