| Breaking News | | Thursday, May 11th, 1967: San Francisco Wins, Blanks Hilltoppers Luis Tiant of the San Francisco Spiders was in command from start to finish in his 6-0 shutout win over the Atlanta Hilltoppers. He struck out 8, walked 4 and allowed 3 hits.
"I felt strong the entire game," Tiant said. "I felt like I had my good stuff. It was just one of those games when everything was working."
This season Tiant has compiled a 4-5 record with a 4.88 ERA in 10 starts. | | Saturday, May 6th, 1967: Spiders Lose Brock for 2 Weeks Lou Brock of the San Francisco Spiders was injured in today's game against Washington and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a concussion, and he is expected to be out for up to 2 weeks. It happened while Brock was making a defensive play. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."
Brock is swinging at a .300 pace on the year with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has played in 31 games. | | Friday, May 5th, 1967: Alley Slaps 5 Hits It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Gene Alley -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Seals Stadium and paced the Spiders to a 10-7 win over the Boston Federals.
After his dynamite batting performance the San Francisco shortstop told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 7 tries and put his name in the record book.
G. Alley grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 9th, hit an RBI double in the 11th and hit a two-run home run off C. Hartenstein in the 13th.
This season Alley is hitting at a .417 pace with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and has scored 5 times. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | LF Lou Brock | concussion | 2 days | Not on DL | | 2B Pete Rose | hyperextended knee | 3 days | On DL, eligible for return | | P Jack Kralick | torn back muscle | 3 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 26-16, .619 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 15-9, .625 PCT | | Record on the road | 11-7, .611 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-3, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-8, .556 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-5, .737 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 12-11, .522 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in May | 10-5, .667 PCT |
