The American Association made it official today: Phil Roof is the Player of the Week.
He really stood out on the diamond this week with a .500 average to take home the award. The Memphis catcher went 6-12, drove in 5 runs, scored 3 times and hit 2 home runs.
This year Roof is batting .436 with 24 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 11 times and has batted in 17 runs. |

Joe Niekro of the Memphis Chicks really strutted his stuff on the mound today with a 10-0 victory. He was almost untouchable, bewildering the Durham Tobacconists with a 5-hit shutout in which he struck out 10 and gave up no walks.
In 1967 Niekro has compiled a 4-0 record with a 1.62 ERA in 5 starts. |

Marv Breeding of New Orleans was a smashing success this week, winning the Player of the Week Award in the American Association.
He hit everything the pitchers threw at him, hammering them for a .500 batting average, going 6 for 12 with no home runs, 4 RBIs and scoring 3 times.
