It was announced today by the International League that Seattle first baseman Lee May had received the Player of the Week Trophy for his superlative play last week.
The Seattle first baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers, pounding them for a .609 average (14-23) with no home runs and 5 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
May is batting .330 this season in 29 games with 1 home run, 19 RBIs and 8 runs scored. He has 37 hits in 112 at-bats. |
 | Saturday, May 13th, 1967: Stafford Pitches Toronto to Shutout Win
Everything clicked on the hill today for Bill Stafford of the Toronto Marlies as he hurled his club to a 2-0 shutout win over the Pittsburgh Maulers, limiting them to 5 hits while recording 5 strikeouts and yielding 2 walks. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches.
"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," the Maulers manager said, "but we weren't able to get to him."
This year Stafford has worked 60.2 innings with 27 strikeouts en route to a 4-2 record and 1.63 ERA. |
