United League News Article | | | Friday, April 21st, 1967: Red-Hot Fregosi Scorches Spiders It's not something you read in the sports pages everyday -- a 5-for-7 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Jim Fregosi got one today. He scattered hits all over Sportsman's Park to pace St. Louis to a 14-7 victory over San Francisco.
The San Francisco skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Fregosi hit several that he is not supposed to hit."
J. Fregosi struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off F. Newman in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
Thus far this year Fregosi is batting .374 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored. | |
