International League Names Top Hitter
Sunday, September 19th, 1971: George Foster of the St. Louis Maroons had a fine season this year and today he accepted the IL Most Valuable Player for 1971.

The 22-year-old center fielder put up a .312 average and a .366 on-base percentage, piling up 162 hits, 19 doubles, 1 triple, 38 home runs, 108 RBIs and 91 runs scored.
Holtzman Tops International League Pitchers
Saturday, September 18th, 1971: 25-year-old Ken Holtzman of the Brooklyn Superbas put together a good year in 1971 for such a young player. Holtzman was named today as the winner of the International League IL Pitcher of the Year.

Holtzman crafted an impressive 15-5 record and a 2.01 ERA. In 188.1 innings he allowed 158 hits, struck out 127, and walked 41.

Friday, September 17th, 1971: "Flashing the leather" and "good with the glove" are ways to describe players who help their teams by playing great defense. Today the most dependable glovemen in the International League for 1971 were announced. Silver Glove Awards will be presented to these top-notch defenders:
