He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.
In May the San Francisco hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .346 average with 36 hits, 4 home runs and 19 RBIs.

He has played in 50 games and scored 23 times. |  | Timmermann #1 UL Pitcher in May Tuesday, June 1st, 1971: The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the United League trophy went to Atlanta hurler Tom Timmermann for his strong performance in May.
During the month, Timmermann was impressive with a 1.90 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 42.2 innings he struck out 27 and gave up 41 hits and 18 walks.
In 11 starts this season, Timmermann has picked up 6 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 75 innings, allowed 73 hits, struck out 48 and posted a 3.12 ERA. |  | Atlanta's Torre Snags May Batting Title Tuesday, June 1st, 1971: Free agent-to-be Joe Torre has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the United League Batter of the Month.
In May, the 30-year-old Atlanta first baseman hit .339 with 8 home runs and 25 RBIs.
If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.
So far this season Torre is batting .353 with 16 home runs, 54 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 77 hits in 218 at-bats, 30 walks and a .450 OBP.
