Thursday, October 9th, 1969: Perry of Atlanta Injured in Off-Field Incident
An unlucky off-the-field mishap will put Jim Perry of the Atlanta Hilltoppers on the shelf for the next one week. He sustained the injury while getting hit with a golf ball and suffered a bruised jaw.

So far in Perry's career, the 33-year-old starter has won 130 and lost 77, collecting 968 strikeouts with a 3.53 ERA. Opponents have hit .329 against him.
Thursday, September 18th, 1969: Carlton Razor-Sharp, Shuts out Washington
Atlanta's Steve Carlton used his full arsenal today to shoot down Washington 7-0. All day long, he exhibited fine command of all his pitches, giving up 3 walks and striking out 9. Carlton allowed the Washington 5 hits in the victory.

In 1969, Carlton has chalked up 19 wins and 6 losses in 29 starts with 201 strikeouts in 229.1 innings and a 2.20 ERA.
Monday, September 1st, 1969: Atlanta's Carlton Top Pitcher in August
In August, Steve Carlton tore through the United League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.

The young Atlanta starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 0.00 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 41 innings he collected 34 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .132 average.
