Wednesday, September 24th, 1969: Torrez Hurls Washington to Shutout Win
An efficient outing for Mike Torrez usually means a win for Washington. Today was no exception, as the 22-year-old starter held Cleveland to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 5 and gave up 3 hits in the 8-0 shutout.

So far this season, Torrez has logged a 10-6 record with a 4.35 ERA. He has started 12 games, hurled 132.1 innings and registered 83 strikeouts and 65 walks.
Thursday, September 18th, 1969: Carlton Razor-Sharp, Shuts out Washington
Atlanta's Steve Carlton used his full arsenal today to shoot down Washington 7-0. All day long, he exhibited fine command of all his pitches, giving up 3 walks and striking out 9. Carlton allowed the Washington 5 hits in the victory.

In 1969, Carlton has chalked up 19 wins and 6 losses in 29 starts with 201 strikeouts in 229.1 innings and a 2.20 ERA.
Thursday, September 4th, 1969: 5 Hits for Monuments Wagner
Next time the Superbas might think twice about pitching to Leon Wagner. Today at Griffith Stadium the Washington right fielder really burned Brooklyn pitching, going 5-for-5 in the Monuments 10-1 triumph.

"When he's seeing the ball well," his skipper told reporters, "he can probably stroke a base hit blindfolded."

L. Wagner hit a two-run double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

In the 1969 season Wagner is hitting .287 with 12 home runs.
