| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, October 1st, 1969: Gray Sox Star Earns UL Bat Title Manhattan's Joe Torre completed the season in style by winning the United League batting crown. He claimed the coveted title by hitting a solid .379 for the year. The gifted 29-year-old Gray Sox catcher chalked up 209 hits during the season with 38 home runs, 117 RBIs and 118 runs scored. |  | Thursday, September 25th, 1969: Rowdy Players Suspended by League Detroit's Reggie Jackson and Manhattan's Tom Seaver have been handed 7-game suspensions for their parts in yesterday's upheaval at Kiner Field (1965). The teams were notified today that the suspensions would go into effect immediately. According to the league commissioner Jackson and Seaver provoked and incited the brawl and bore the blame for what transpired.
Jackson is hitting .299 this year with 41 home runs and 128 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .374, 62 walks and scored 81 times.
This year Seaver has made 17 starts, thrown 116.1 innings, fanned 54 batters and walked 34. His won-lost record is 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA. |  | Tuesday, September 23rd, 1969: Number 2000 for Cepeda Boston first baseman Orlando Cepeda finished the day with 1 hit in 5 at-bats and 2000 career hits. The Federals also finished off the Gray Sox, 3-2. The 32-year-old Cepeda added his name to the list of players in the 2000-hit club.
