Wednesday, September 24th, 1969: Torrez Hurls Washington to Shutout Win
An efficient outing for Mike Torrez usually means a win for Washington. Today was no exception, as the 22-year-old starter held Cleveland to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 5 and gave up 3 hits in the 8-0 shutout.

So far this season, Torrez has logged a 10-6 record with a 4.35 ERA. He has started 12 games, hurled 132.1 innings and registered 83 strikeouts and 65 walks.
Wednesday, September 24th, 1969: Palmer Gone for Season in Cleveland
Cleveland starting pitcher Jim Palmer could miss the remainder of the season because of back spasms. He exited yesterday's Washington game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Palmer would be out 1-2 weeks. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.

"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."

This year in 21 starts, Palmer has recorded 11 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 161 innings, allowed 132 hits, struck out 94 and has a 3.13 ERA.
Wednesday, September 17th, 1969: Rumor Mill: Roseboro On Trading Block
Local media has been reporting that Cleveland's Johnny Roseboro could be on the move. However, neither team officials, nor the 36-year-old catcher chose to comment when approached.
