Friday, August 1st, 1969: IL Top Pitcher for July Picked
Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the International League in July?
Answer: That would be Juan Marichal of the Portland Timbers.
He excelled with a 11-2 mark and a 2.25 ERA in 13 starts, tossed 112 innings, fanned 39 and held opposing teams to a .235 average. That's exactly why the International League scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month.

In 55 starts this season Marichal has gathered 35 wins while suffering 15 losses. He has pitched 455 innings, allowed 409 hits, struck out 205 and has a 2.65 ERA.
Friday, August 1st, 1969: May Top Hitter in IL in July
Even though he is a newcomer to International League, Lee May put up some good numbers in July and brought home the IL Batter of the Month trophy.

He was one of Portland's offensive leaders with a .361 average in 57 games. He also racked up 15 home runs, 52 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

In 1968 May is batting .332 with 40 home runs.
Monday, July 28th, 1969: IL Player of the Week Selected
Lee May burst onto the International League stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie first baseman for Portland garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 25-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .500 (14-28) with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs last week.

Posting a .331 batting average to date, May has 39 home runs and 178 RBIs.
