| Breaking News | | Thursday, August 7th, 1969: 5-Hit Blitz by Denver's De La Hoz Who needs batting practice? Mike De La Hoz of Denver apparently doesn't as he battered Twin Cities with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 9-7 win.
He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 5 day... will my name be in the record books now?"
M. De La Hoz singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
De La Hoz on the season is batting .333 with 1 home run. His totals include 16 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He has played in 21 games. | | Monday, August 4th, 1969: International League Announces #1 Player There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Jack Hiatt, the Denver catcher, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the International League Player of the Week honors.
Hiatt piled up 13 hits in 29 at-bats, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs while hitting .448.
Thus far this year Hiatt is batting .294 with 18 home runs, 115 RBIs and 114 runs scored. | | Monday, July 28th, 1969: Horlen Hurls Sugar Kings to Shutout Victory "My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Joe Horlen did as he led the Sugar Kings to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Grizzlies.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Denver manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Horlen yielded 5 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in a standout performance.
So far this season Horlen has a record of 26-8 with 149 strikeouts and 64 walks in 292 innings and a 2.19 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 79-53, .598 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 35-31, .530 PCT | | Record on the road | 44-22, .667 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-3, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 22-21, .512 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 28-17, .622 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 51-36, .586 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in May | 19-10, .655 PCT | | Record in June | 16-11, .593 PCT | | Record in July | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in August | 13-6, .684 PCT |
