Tuesday, October 7th, 1969: St. Louis 1969 World Series Champions
They did it!
The St. Louis Maroons are the best team in the United League!
They did it by knocking off the Brooklyn Superbas 5-3 today at Sportsman's Park to win the World Series 4-1.

It was the Maroons 1st league championship.

"This team's got a lot of heart," the champs manager said. "We worked really hard. We just beat a very, very good team, an excellent team. We had to do the little things."

St. Louis wrapped up the regular season with a 93-67 record and finished first in the West Division.
Monday, September 29th, 1969: Mantle Caps Great Week
Few players his age are still in the league, but Mickey Mantle of the Brooklyn Superbas clearly loves the game and clearly he can still get the job done. Last week the 36-year-old right fielder hit the ball with the consistency of someone ten years younger, which made Mantle a popular and well-deserved selection as United League Player of the Week.

He paced the Superbas attack by putting up a .480 batting average, 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 9 RBIs and 5 home runs. Mantle also scored 8 runs.

Currently Mantle has 32 home runs and a .332 batting average.
Friday, September 26th, 1969: Year Ends for Dan McGinn in Brooklyn
Doctors in Brooklyn said Dan McGinn may not play anymore this year. The Superbas closer received a herniated disc during a game against the Washington Monuments and will be out for at least 7-8 weeks. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season.

To this point in the season, McGinn has 19 saves in 49 relief appearances with a 5-2 mark and 2.73 ERA. He has 56 strikeouts in 59.1 innings with 20 walks.
