Breaking News Tuesday, August 12th, 1969: Super Swinger -- Unser Slams 5 Hits It was a great day at the plate for Del Unser of the Houston Generals. He collected 5 hits in 6 tries, but his club still came up short in the win column. The Montreal Alouettes racked up the victory, topping the Generals by the score of 9-8. D. Unser hit an RBI double in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off S. Hargan in the 10th. This year Unser has collected a .267 batting average to date with 185 hits in 693 at-bats, 72 RBIs, 4 home runs and scored 96 times. He has played in 179 games. Tuesday, July 29th, 1969: Stafford Toys with Montreal In an impressive outing, Bill Stafford whitewashed the Montreal Alouettes 4-0. "I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Stafford, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion. "It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took." The Twin Cities hurler held Montreal scoreless, allowed 5 hits, chalked up 4 strikeouts and yielded 3 walks. In the current season in 39 starts, Bill Stafford has a record of 17-20 with 126 strikeouts in 315.1 innings and a 3.03 ERA. Wednesday, July 16th, 1969: Alouettes Chill Hiller's Hot Streak The San Diego Admirals lost to the Montreal Alouettes 8-3 today at Admirals Ballpark, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Chuck Hiller's 21-game hitting streak. "We felt if we could slow down Hiller, we would win the game," the Alouettes manager explained after the game. "They really seemed to feed off of his streak, so we really wanted to make sure they had nothing to feed off of." Hiller is hitting .291 in 1968 with 6 home runs, 82 RBIs and 89 runs scored.
