Fred Talbot effectively shut down the Keystones today, blanking them 1-0 on 5 hits, ringing up 6 strikeouts and allowing 1 walk. The Maulers pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.

"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," Talbot said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."

The Keystones skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."

This season Talbot has compiled a 18-23 mark with a 3.68 ERA in 67 starts.
Saturday, June 28th, 1969: Sugar Kings Blank Pittsburgh, Renko Winner
"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.

In his postgame interview the Pittsburgh manager said, "Steve Renko made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Renko had 1 strikeout, 3 walks and allowed only 3 hits as the Havana Sugar Kings whitewashed the Pittsburgh Maulers 3-0.

This season Renko has gone 6-3 with an ERA of 2.21, posting 46 strikeouts in 85.2 innings.
