Tuesday, October 7th, 1969: St. Louis 1969 World Series Champions
They did it!
The St. Louis Maroons are the best team in the United League!
They did it by knocking off the Brooklyn Superbas 5-3 today at Sportsman's Park to win the World Series 4-1.

It was the Maroons 1st league championship.

"This team's got a lot of heart," the champs manager said. "We worked really hard. We just beat a very, very good team, an excellent team. We had to do the little things."

St. Louis wrapped up the regular season with a 93-67 record and finished first in the West Division.
Monday, September 22nd, 1969: Player of the Week Trophy to Smith
So far in his young career, Reggie Smith has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the United League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 23-year-old St. Louis Maroons right fielder hit at a torrid .481 clip as he collected 13 hits in 27 at-bats, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

In the 1969 campaign Smith has hit at a .308 clip with 92 RBIs, 27 home runs and 86 runs scored.
Monday, September 8th, 1969: St. Louis's Clemente Down with Injury
A blow for Roberto Clemente today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 3 weeks with a concussion. Clemente suffered the injury making a defensive play. Although officials from the St. Louis Maroons are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Clemente's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.

This season Clemente is batting .300 with 134 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 63 times and has 39 runs batted in.
