Monday, September 22nd, 1969: Spiders Jenkins Out Rest Of Season
San Francisco starting pitcher Fergie Jenkins could miss the remainder of the season because of a herniated disc. He exited yesterday's Atlanta game after injuring himself while throwing a pitch. The original diagnosis said Jenkins would be out 7 months. Later on his doctors said he could be out even longer.

"He's done," his manager commented at the BNN press conference. "It's a season-ending injury, but it could have been worse. It's not the worst-case scenario, so we're happy about that."

Checking out his stats for the season, Jenkins has registered 12 wins and 12 losses in 31 starts, 3.47 ERA and struck out 102 batters in 228.1 innings.
Wednesday, September 17th, 1969: Jenkins Pitches San Francisco to Shutout Win
"He's mixing his pitches real well and keeping his composure on the mound," the San Francisco manager said. "When Jenkins does that, good things happen."

These comments came after Fergie Jenkins and the San Francisco Spiders shut out the Detroit Griffins 7-0.

He had 4 strikeouts, 3 walks and allowed 5 hits.

In 30 starts this year Jenkins has crafted a 12-12 record and a 3.49 ERA.
Thursday, September 11th, 1969: O'Dell Bewilders Spiders
Billy O'Dell of the Chicago Colts spun his magic on the San Francisco Spiders today. He blanked them 5-0 on 4 hits, registering 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.

"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," O'Dell said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the Chicago skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."

O'Dell has a 7-13 season record so far. In 29 starts, he has fanned 104 batters in 189 innings with a 3.95 ERA.
