Roy White Homer Thwarts Fergie

Fergie Jenkins took a shutout and a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but turned out the loser on Opening Day in St. Louis after Roy White clouted a game-winning pinch homer. Don Sutton pitched seven innings of five-hit ball, but newcomer Ray Crone got the win, and Bob Locker the save. Granny Hamner was 2-for-4 but committed an error in his Maroons debut.
