| Breaking News |  | Friday, September 29th, 1967: Top Batter Named by International League 1967's Swish Nicholson Award has been announced by the International League. This season's trophy will be presented by the SION Baseball Writers Association to Ken Harrelson, the talented Manhattan first baseman.
In 129 games he gave IL pitchers no mercy, finishing out the year with a .313 batting average, 148 hits, 28 home runs, 81 RBIs, .430 OBP and 87 runs scored.
Harrelson will be honored this weekend at the SBWA annual meeting. |  | Monday, September 25th, 1967: Manhattan Befuddled by Friend "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Manhattan manager after his club suffered a 8-0 shutout at the hands of Bob Friend of the Cleveland Barons. He held the Manhattan Gray Sox scoreless in a 5-hit whitewash.
Friend was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Bob did a whale of a pitching job."
This season Friend has gone 9-10 with an ERA of 5.07, posting 147 strikeouts in 152.2 innings. |  | Friday, September 1st, 1967: UL Best Hitter Award to Manhattan's Joe Torre The United League Batter of the Month has been picked for August and the honor goes to the Manhattan Gray Sox Joe Torre.
He compiled a .396 batting average with 38 hits and 7 home runs, along with 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
