| Breaking News |  | Friday, October 6th, 1967: Atlanta Tops Cleveland for UL Title It was a storybook year for the Atlanta Hilltoppers as they closed out a 4-0 series win over the Cleveland Barons to claim the 1967 World Series. They wrapped it up with a 3-2 victory to cap an incredible season and brought home their 1st championship.
The Hilltoppers manager gave his view of the series, "We had a lot of things going for us, offense and defense doing it at the right time. That's what it takes win a World Series."
"We're disappointed we lost, but we're also very proud of what we did all year," said the Barons manager. "They played better baseball than us and they beat us."
During the West Division regular season Atlanta put up a 99-61 record and finished first. |  | Thursday, September 28th, 1967: Right Fielder Jim Busby Out The Cleveland Barons were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Jim Busby was likely to be out for 2 weeks after he injured himself throwing the ball in today's game against the Brooklyn Superbas. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a tender elbow. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Cleveland manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Jim is back in action."
In 1967 Busby is batting .274 with 106 hits, 9 home runs, 47 RBIs, 36 walks, .339 OBP and has scored 45 runs. He has played in 114 games. |  | Monday, September 25th, 1967: Manhattan Befuddled by Friend "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Manhattan manager after his club suffered a 8-0 shutout at the hands of Bob Friend of the Cleveland Barons. He held the Manhattan Gray Sox scoreless in a 5-hit whitewash.
Friend was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Bob did a whale of a pitching job."
